Suspected terrorists invaded Nigerian Immigration Office in Ogbomosho, get away with officers’ firearms
Suspected gunmen on Tuesday night, the 2nd of June, reportedly launched a coordinated attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, escaping with firearms belonging to officers who were on duty at the time of the incident.
SaharaReporters reported that the incident occurred at about 10 PM at the immigration office located along the Ogbomosho-Ilorin Motorway, close to the NNPC filling station.
According to Vanguard, the armed assailants stormed the facility at a time when commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, a busy commercial hub in the area.
During the operation, officers stationed at the immigration office were reportedly overpowered by the assailant’s men.
The attackers subsequently disarmed the officers of their firearms before fleeing the scene.
However, the exact number of weapons taken away could not be immediately confirmed at the time of filing this report.
As of the time of filling this report, security authorities had yet to confirm the full details of the incident or provide an explanation on the scale of the attack, including whether any injuries or casualties were recorded during the invasion.
When contacted for confirmation by SaharaReporters, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, stated that he has not yet received an official briefing on the incident.
” I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” The Police Spokesman clarified.
As of press time, neither the Nigerian Immigration Service nor other security agencies has issued an official statement regarding the invasion, the number of firearms allegedly taken, or the identity of the attackers.
