Super Eagles rise high in new FIFA ranking

The Super Eagles of Nigeria on the heels of their impressive performance at the just concluded AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire has moved up in the new FIFA rankings.

According to the new ranking, the three time African champions are now ranked third in Africa and 28th in the world.

Nigeria’s point haul of 1522.26 see them  moved 14 places up the ladder from their previous 42nd position and from the 6th to 3rd in Africa.

It’s Super Eagles best ranking since February 2008 when they ranked 19th in the world.

The Atlas Lions of Morocco still remain the highest ranked African team despite not moving beyond the Round of 16 at the last AFCON. They,however also moved a step forward in global ranking from 13th position to 12th as the total points they have gathered over the years still weigh in their favour.

At the moment, the Moroccans have 1663.69 as against the 1661.69 which they had as at the last ranking in December. The Teranga Lions of Senegal are second in Africa with 1620. 74 and 17th in the world.

Nigeria Super Eagles lost 1-2 to Cote D’Ivoire in the final of the AFCON which was played on Sunday.
