Subsidy Removal: FG resumes negotiations with NLC, TUC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Monday, resumed negotiations with the federal government on measures to alleviate the impacts of subsidy removal on Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as of the petrol on Nigerians.

The Informant247 had reported that the labour unions had on June 5 suspended their planned strike over the removal of petrol subsidy after having a meeting with the representatives of the federal government.

The Monday’s meeting was held at the conference room of the office of the chief of staff to the president, Femi Gbajabiamila, in Abuja.

The meeting had in attendance, Joe Ajaero, the NLC president, Festus Osifo, TUC president, and other labour leaders.

Others included Dele Alake, special adviser to the president on special duties, communication and strategy; Mele Kyari, group chief executive officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL); Zacch Adedeji, special adviser on revenue, and Olu Verheijen, special adviser on energy.

Others were Kachallom Daju, permanent secretary of the ministry of labour and employment; Gbenga Komolafe, chief executive officer (CEO) of Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC); and Farouk Ahmed, CEO of Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, (NMDPRA), among others.

The outcome of the meeting was not yet known at the time of this report.
