Suarez says ‘poor officiating’ responsible for Uruguay world cup exit

Luiz Suarez has noted “poor officiating” as one of the major reasons why Uruguay crashed  out of  the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking after their 2-0 win over Ghana which still wasn’t consequential to their bid to progress to the next round, he noted that some questionable calls made by the Referee would have changed the nature of the match.

The first half brace from Giorgian de Arrascaeta saw the Uruguayan putting an early disappointment in to the mud and turn Andre Ayew’s failure to turn in a penalty earlier for Ghana to their favour.

Suarez, who was substituted before the end of the match watched with dismay, when Edinson Cavani was denied a late penalty after going over in the Ghana 18-yard box.

He felt it was a reasonable claim, and also considered Uruguay should have had a penalty early in the second half after Darwin Nunez went down.

Despite referee Daniel Siebert assessing the Nunez incident on a pitchside monitor, it was ruled it should not be a penalty

“The penalty against Darwin is very clear. Edi’s also has contact.” he said.

“They are not excuses, but incredible things are taking place in the World Cup.” Said Suarez who added that FIFA should “give an explanations” for awarding penalty which

The 35-year old claimed to have been prevented from going across to his family following the final whistle against Ghana, too.

“After the game I want to go hug my family, and people from FIFA come to tell me no,” Suarez said, “when you see a Frenchman with his children on the substitute bench.

“It seems that Uruguay has to have more power. FIFA is always against Uruguay.”

Expressing his delight at playing at the world cup for the fourth time, he also bemused the fact that his four year old son had not seen him win any world cup game

“I was lucky to play my fourth World Cup. And what I thought about before the match was my four-year-old son, who hadn’t seen me win a World Cup match,” Suarez said.

“Today, he saw me win, but he sees this image of sadness and I think that’s it. For a father, for a player it is very difficult, but we are going to face the situation and encourage our team-mates for what lies ahead”
