Strike: Polytechnic lecturers extends ultimatum to FG by 1 month

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced 30 day extension of the ultimatum given to the federal government to meet their demands.

Failure to address their outstanding issues, the union said its suspended industrial action might be revisited.

Mohammed Mohammed, the Chairman of the Kaduna Polytechnic chapter of the union, made this revelation at a press conference yesterday, saying the conclusion was reached at the union’s 102nd National Executive Council meeting.

“In choosing to extend the long expired three-month suspension period of our industrial action, we are convinced that the extra window of one month typifies our level of restraint and consideration for our students and other members of the public even as well hope that the government will take advantage of this opportunity to avoid a shutdown of the sector,” he said.

He however requested members of the public to charge the government to meet the Union’s needs, in order to avoid a closedown of polytechnics in the country.
