‘Speak with respect’: Sultan urges Nigerians to address leaders politely
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Nigerians to express their grievances to leaders without resorting to insults. In a Sallah message delivered after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers, he emphasized the importance of politely communicating problems to leaders, stating, “If you insult your leader, how can you ask him to do something for you?”
He encouraged citizens to pray for their leaders, including the President, governors, local government chairmen, and lawmakers, highlighting that such prayers could assist them in fulfilling their responsibilities. The Sultan also urged Nigerians to pray for peace, development, and prosperity in the country.
In his remarks, the Sultan congratulated Muslims for successfully completing the 29 days of Ramadan and urged them to uphold the virtues learned during the holy month in their daily lives. He advised against reverting to previous negative behaviors after Ramadan.
Additionally, he commended Islamic preachers for their responsible conduct during Ramadan Tafsir sessions and praised Governor Ahmed Aliyu for the distribution of Ramadan palliatives and the ongoing developmental projects in the state.
