Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has lifted the curfew placed on the state with immediate effect.
He said that the decision was reached after relevant security bodies and stakeholders have been respectfully consulted.
“Acting on enabling powers under section 176 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, section 1, 2 and 4 of the Public Order Act and section 15 of Sokoto State Peace Preservation Law, I hereby lift the curfew,” he said
The governor therefore told members of the public to abide by the laws and orders of the country and the state and to be peaceful in their dealings at all time.
He therefore also placed a ban on all forms of processions in the state until further notice.
The governor appreciated the people of the state for obeying and complying with the curfew.
Recall that the Governor had placed a 24 hours curfew on the state shortly after a violent protest which resulted in the death of one person in the state.
The protesters were reported to have been demanding the freedom of the two suspects arrested for the murder of Deborah Samuel who was accused of blasphemy.
