Sokoto–Badagry superhighway to transform regional transportation, trade – Minister

In a recent inspection of the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway, the Minister of State for Works, Muhammad Goronyo, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s infrastructural development amidst ongoing economic challenges.

During the tour, Goronyo described the superhighway as a “transformative initiative” that promises to enhance transportation and invigorate trade across West Africa.

“This project is not just for Sokoto, Kebbi, or Niger States. It is for the entire country… It will serve as a critical link between Nigeria and neighbouring countries such as Niger and Mali,” he stated.

The ambitious project spans over 1,000 kilometers, connecting several states before reaching its destination in Badagry, Lagos. Goronyo emphasized the road’s strategic significance, noting its direct access to the Illela International Market.

“It’s going to open up a lot of business opportunities along this corridor, linking Nigeria to international trade routes,” he added.

Calling the superhighway a “game changer,” Goronyo urged local communities to support and protect the project, expressing confidence that its completion will yield significant benefits. “Once this project is completed, it will speak for itself,” he assured.

Goronyo also praised Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, for his dedication to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in advancing infrastructure that stimulates economic growth.

As a flagship project under the current administration, the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway aims to improve north-south connectivity and bolster Nigeria’s integration with the Sahel region and international trade hubs.

Experts predict that the highway will alleviate congestion, reduce travel times, and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the African Continental Free Trade Area, while also attracting industries and fostering economic development along its route.
