Sisters arrested for orchestrating ‘fake’ Kidnapping to extort father N5m in Abuja
The police command in the federal capital territory (FCT) has arrested two sisters and two accomplices for allegedly staging a fake abduction to extort N5 million from their father.
According to a statement from FCT police spokesperson Josephine Adeh, the suspects were implicated in the faked abduction of 16-year-old Lead Way Innocent. The ordeal began on July 18, 2025, when Innocent’s father reported that his daughter had gone missing after leaving for an examination at Government Secondary School, Karu, Abuja. He later received a phone call from unidentified individuals demanding a ransom for her release.
After tracking the phone number used by the extortionists, police located it to a residence in Jikwoyi Phase II. Upon arrival, officers discovered Lead Way Innocent safe and in the company of Mrs. Tina Mayowa, the wife of Mr. Mayowa Adedeji. Both appeared to be eating and conversing, showing no signs of distress.
Further investigations uncovered the involvement of Miss Joy Innocent (the elder sister of the alleged victim) and her boyfriend, Mr. Mayowa Adedeji, who is married to Mrs. Mayowa. It was revealed that Joy conspired with her boyfriend to stage the kidnapping, with the intention of defrauding their father. Interestingly, Lead Way Innocent was aware of the plan and actively participated, watching as her family grappled with emotional distress while trying to raise the ransom.
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face charges shortly, as confirmed by the police.
