Showdown in Lagos as Kwara United battles Rangers for Federation Cup final ticket

Kwara United and Rangers International FC of Enugu would be rolling out their aces later today to battle for final ticket of the 2025 President Federation cup as they clash in the semi-finals match.

The highly anticipated encounter will take place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan Stadium in Lagos on Wednesday at 4pm.

To reach this stage, Rangers defeated Plateau United 1–0 in the quarter-finals match played in Abuja, while Kwara United dramatically edged Akwa United 5-3 on penalties after playing out a 2-2 in the regulation time of the quarter-finals game which was held in Enugu.

Rangers come into the game today with a lot of history,having won the prestigious trophy for six times-an experience they will also be banking on as they face Kwara United, who on the other hand are in the semi-finals for the first time in the history of the club.

Both teams, have reportedly mobilised fans and supporters alike for the game, as they seek the ticket for the final of the oldest tournament in the history of Nigerian football.

In the about to be concluded NPFL, Rangers forced Kwara United to 1-1 draw in Ilorin before securing another dominant 3-0 win over the Harmony Boys.

With Kwara United sitting 12th on the log of the NPFL table with 50 points and Rangers occupying 8th with 52 points, both teams have effectively lost out from securing continental slot through the league, but the semi-final clash present them an opportunity, of reaching the final and ultimately picking one of the available CAF Confederation Cup slots should any of them win the Federation Cup.

Meanwhile, the other men’s semi-final of the Federation Cup will see Abakaliki FC of Ebonyi State take on Lagos-based Ikorodu City at the FIFA Goal Project pitch in Bwari, Abuja, also today.
