Shooting Stars fined N3 million, ordered to pay attacked Journalist 500k
The league management company (LMC) also announced a number of sanctions against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan for violating the league’s rules.
Recall that theinformant247 reported how a Sports Journalist, Tobi Adepoju was attacked by the irate fans of Shooting Stars on Wednesday after their match against Remo Stars of Ogun State which ended 1-1.
After reviewing of the match reports for Matchday 31 between Shooting Stars and Remo Stars at Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, the LMC in the statement found 3SC to be in breach of Rule B13.52 whereby it failed to provide and ensure effective security leading to breakdown of order after the match.
While also noting that in the spirit of Rule B8.21, the club had failed to provide adequate security for match officials before, during and after the match resulting in the harassment and intimidation of the Referee, the Club have also been found guilty of Rule C1.1 due to its failure to contain and control their fans after the match, resulting in disturbances which include the attack of a Media Personnel, Adepoju Tobi.
The Oluyole Warriors were reprimanded for breach of the peace agreement brokered by the LMC between the two clubs with regards to guaranteeing peace, order and fair play during matches between the two.
Consequently, the Club has however been fined a total of N3 million plus a N500,000 compensation to Mr. Tobi Adepoju for lost valuables and medical bills.
LMC in the statement added that the stadium(Lekan Salami Stadium Adamasingba) has been closed to fans for the remaining fixtures of the season while a further breach will lead to their being directed to play outside the Southwest.
3SC also stands the risk of two points deduction to last for a probational period ending with the season while the Media Officer, Tosin Omojola and Kits Manager, Mr. Majolagbe Kolawale have been expelled from all NPFL related activities for a minimum period of 12 months in the first instance.
In a similar development, the management of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan ( 3SC) while condemning the attack has tendered their apology to Tobi Adepoju.
3SC are yet record victory in their last five games and currently occupies 12th position on the log with 39 points.
The team will face Dakkada FC in their next game away from home.
