Shakira, Burna Boy take centre stage at world cup opening ceremony
Colombian pop star and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation are set to perform the official song of the 2026 at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.
The duo will take the stage at on June 11, ahead of the opening match between Mexico and South Africa, where they are expected to perform the official anthem titled “Dai Dai.”
According to FIFA, the song celebrates football’s power to unite people across cultures and continents. The title, an Italian expression meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” is expected to be a central highlight of the opening ceremony.
Colombian reggaeton artist and South African singer will also feature in the opening ceremony performances.
FIFA said it aimed to create a song that reflects the energy and global spirit of the World Cup, adding that Shakira and Burna Boy represent two of the most influential voices in global music.
The 2026 tournament will feature multiple opening celebrations across host nations. In Canada, and will headline the ceremony before Canada’s opening match in Toronto.

Shakira’s appearance marks another major return to the World Cup stage, following her iconic contributions to previous tournaments, including Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and La La La.
