Senator, YPP gov’ship candidate bag 42 years jail term
The Federal High Court sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state has on Thursday sentenced Chairman, senate committee on Petroleum Upstream in National assembly and Young progressive Party (YPP) Governorship candidate, Bassey Akpan to 42 years in prison over corruption charges.
Akpan was convicted for receiving bribes of 12 cars worth N254 million from an oil marketer, Olajidee Omokore, during his tenure as Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Finance between 2010 and 2014.
Upon his conviction, senator Akpan was taken to Ikot Ekpene Custodial Centre in Akwa Ibom State, to serve his 42-year jail term following his successful prosecution by EFCC on corruption charges.
