Senate resumes plenary after six-week recess, goes into closed-door session

Following the expiration of a six-week recess, the Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, resumed plenary.

The Informant247 gathered that the Red Chamber, after that, dissolved into a closed-door session to deliberate on issues affecting the nation.

It was also learned that the senate is set for the screening and confirmation of the nomination of Olayemi Cardosos for appointment as the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Cardoso, last week Friday, assumed office as the acting CBN governor pending confirmation by the Senate following his nomination by President Bola Tinubu.

The Red Chamber also planned to screen and confirm, at the committee of the whole, the appointment of four new deputy governors, namely Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor and Bala M. Bello.

Meanwhile, in his opening speech to welcome his colleagues, Senate President Godswill Akpabio appealed to all aggrieved lawmakers to sheath their swords and cooperate with his leadership, adding that the progress the country deserved at the moment could only be achieved in a state of unity.
