Security personnels engaged unidentified gunmen on Sunday in a gun fight in some parts of Orlu and Orsu Local Government Areas of Imo state.
It was gathered the gun fight which commenced Saturday night engendered fear and coerced people of the affected areas into their houses for safety as some ran into the bushes.
An intelligence report given to newsmen alleged that the security personnels reached the affected areas based on the first hand information that the unknown gunmen were strategizing to strike the areas.
A guest house, Inland guest house or ukwu Aki guest house was set on fire on Sunday morning, as a result of the gun fight.
As at the time of producing this report, the affected areas were Amanachi, Awo-idemili in the Orsu Local Government Area of the state.
While Banana junction to Orlu town and surrounding areas felt the heat of the gun fight.
A source who spoke to newsmen from some of the victimized areas narrated that “There were casualties during the gun battle but he was not specific whether it was the security agencies or the unknown gunmen that suffered the losses.
“We can’t say for sure. What I can say is that these men are fighting seriously between the security men and the unknown gunmen.
“This battle started from Saturday night and later on Sunday morning, a guest house was burnt. Inland guest house and other people shops and houses.”
As at the time of producing this report, the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Mike Abattam, was yet to give account of the incident.
