School resumption: Our students should calm down – Kwara govt

Ahead of the nationwide reopening of schools, the Kwara State Government has declared readiness to resume academic activities for tertiary institutions across the state.

The State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science, and Technology, Mrs. Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu disclosed this in a statement issued during the weekend in Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.

Kawu said the government, through the state committee on covid-19, has begun the fumigation of school campuses.

She urged students to calm down and prepare themselves for resumption.

The statement reads in part, “In preparation for schools’ reopening, MOTEST requested for, and has received information, to ascertain the level of preparedness for reopening by our institutions.

“Almost all the institutions have put the most basic things in place; and I am happy to reveal that the State Government’s support, through the State Committee on Covid-19, has commenced, on a one-on-one basis.
Aviation College Ilorin has been fumigated; same for the College of Nursing, Oke-Ode, and School of Nursing and Midwifery Ilorin; both colleges have been fumigated, and they also received hand sanitizers and face masks.

“We are cognizant of our need to comply with directives laid out by the NCDC in respect of the opening of schools, and the only option we have is to adhere strictly to the rules.

“Our students should please calm down!

“We also look forward to having you back on our campuses. You bring so much light into our institutions.

“I would like to thank you for your continued patience, support and understanding, as we deal with the many variables that will no doubt impact our planning, moving forwards.

“I look forward to seeing our students and staff return to school, but only when it’s safe to do so.”
