“Scam in KWASU”: Admitted candidates protest, demand reopening of school portal.
Newly admitted candidates of Kwara state University, Malete protest.
Admitted candidates of KWASU gathered on the street of Malete today, March 22, demanding that the school re-open the portal so they may pay their school fees, they protested holding cardboards with inscriptions of “scam in KWASU”, “why make us go through this emotional trauma?”
There has been a report that the University closed the School portal to deny some candidates of further registration after admitting them for the 2020/21 academic session when most of the candidates had already paid the acceptance fee.
The affected candidates accused the school of going beyond the limit given to them by the National University Commission (NUC) and the school only used them as a means to get money.
Reacting to the accusation, the Director of the University relations, Abdulrazaq Sanni, told The Informant247 that he saw no reason there should be a protest, as it is normal that not all applicants will be admitted, due to the fact that there is a large influx of students because neighboring universities are not open for admission operation and KWASU does not go beyond the admission limit given by NUC, the school always get approval from NUC before expansion, KWASU never expanded without authorization.
He, however, stated that some applicants don’t pay their school fees on time and paying the acceptance fees doesn’t make one a student.
Recall that the management of Kwara State University made an announcement, which was disclosed in a statement by the Director of University Relations that the school would reopen the portal on Sunday, 21st March 2021, stressing that candidates who have paid their acceptance fees and part of tuition fees would be given the leverage to conclude their payment on the portal within 48 hours of reopening the payment platform.
