Save us from skin cancer, albinos cry to Buhari

People with Albinism (PWA) in Nigeria has said that they suffered from skin cancer. They however appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari for rescue.

The president of the Albinism Association of Nigeria, Jake Epelle, made this revelation in Abuja, Thursday at a press conference meant for the celebration of the National Albinism Awareness Day.

He revealed that up to 4 million out of 27 million Nigerians with one form of disability or the other battles one disease or more, including the “dreaded skin cancer”.

He however appealed to the president to reinvigorate his government’s previous interest in addressing their needs.

He said: “It is important to reiterate that special attention needs to be placed on PWAs who are suffering one or more forms of cancer as a result of their condition.”

He also called for the review of the previous administration’s Skin Cancer Intervention Programme for PWAs by putting in place necessary policy mechanisms that would render it workable.

He appealed to the president to accept that skin cancer care be included in the objective of the current Cancer Health Fund which ordinarily cares for breast, cervical and prostate cancer.
