Saraki, AbdulRazaq, Oyabambi, others greet Muslims as Ramadan fast starts
The ex-Senate President of Nigeria, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mall. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, among others have sent greetings and best wishes to Muslims in Kwara and across the world as they commenced the 30-day Ramadan fast.
In a statement posted on his verified Twitter page, Saraki appealed to all muslims to pray for Nigeria, and the world, to emerge from the socio-economic crises caused by COVID-19 as a kinder, stronger, more united world committed to upholding the values of peace and harmony.
He tweeted, “I appeal to all muslims to demonstrate the spirit of brotherhood during Ramadan by caring for the less privileged amongst us.”
On his part, the AbdulRazaq greets Muslims at Ramadan on Thursday congratulated the Muslim community on the dawn of another Ramadan, the ninth Islamic month in which fasting is prescribed for healthy Muslims.
“I felicitate with the Muslim ummah on the coming of another Ramadan, a month in which God’s mercies are exceptionally abundant and His forgiveness far-reaching. I wish the Muslim ummah a very rewarding fasting season,” the Governor said.
“I fully appreciate the fact that this is a peculiar moment for all of humanity during which movement is restrained to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the interest of everyone. I call for the understanding of all at this time, especially the Muslim community whose special acts of worship during Ramadan are affected by the restrictions on movement and public gatherings. I am consoled however by the fact that history is replete with examples of the best of the Muslim generations having to suspend group activities on safety grounds. Let us have our sahuur and Iftar in conditions that would not spread the virus and endanger ourselves and others.
“Finally, I urge the Muslim community to remain true to the dictates of this special period while also praying to the Almighty Allah to shower His unqualified mercies on the human community and save us from all afflictions like COVID-19. I also pray to the Almighty Allah to grant every fasting person multiple rewards of the holy month of Ramadan. #RamadanAtHome.”
Also, a former Kwara gubernatorial candidate in the last general election, Otunba Oyabambi said fasting was not just meant to stay hungry or thirsty, but an opportunity to strive for inner purification and self-accountability.
Oyabambi enjoined fasting Muslims to increase their love for humanity, acts of charity, kindness, generosity, and gratitude.
Esinrogunjo, in a statement issued by his media team in Ilorin, Kwara State capital on Thursday evening, reiterated the need for Nigerians, most especially Kwarans, to imbibe the act of fellowship to their neighbours as the holy month signifies.
He said, “I felicitate with Muslim faithfuls on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, a month embedded with God’s mercies and forgiveness as I wish to reiterated the need to be in unison and extend kind gestures to ones neighbour as it’s part of the deed of the Holy prophet.”
He added, “Coronavirus took the world by the storm during the Lenten season. And This virus do not have any religion inclinations. And it resumed its vile destructive journey where neither the Christianity nor Islam is recognised. A food of thought for us all.”
