A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Kwara State, Mall. Saliu Mutapha has urged political elites in the country to embrace a more transparent approach to winning elections.

“…this cannot be overemphasized because at the end of our endeavours, what will matter most is not the number of lies that we tell, but the number of lives that we impact,” Mustapha said on Monday while delivering a keynote address at the public presentation of a book written by Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, titled ‘Twenty One Political Lies In Nigeria’.

“If we are sincere with ourselves as political elites, we will realize that it is an accumulation of the desperate lies of the political class that has brought Nigeria to its present quagmire on security and ethnic agitations. And the task to de-escalate solely resides with us. We better get down to it, and quick, to salvage our failing sectors.”

Speaking of the book, Mustapha commended the author for his vision and efforts to document what he described as “a very comprehensive account from a personal point of view”, adding that some of the issues raised afflict the country at the moment.

He, however, urged the author to work harder for balance “especially as it relates to the Kwara Central Senatorial District” in the book’s next edition.
