Sales rep appears in court for allegedly swindling employer of N13.4m

A sales representative, Daniel Emmanuel was on Monday dragged before Abuja Court, for allegedly swindling his boss of goods worth N13.4 million.

The 41-year-old Emmanuel, residing in Apo mechanic village estate, Garki, Abuja was charged by the  police with cheating, theft and criminal breach of trust.

Ade Adeyanju who’s the Prosecution Counsel,  informed the court that the defendant was engaged as a sales representative at a company identified as Providence Court service and his responsibility was to make supply of wine and spirits to stores and supermarkets then make payment of the proceed to the account of the company.

Adeyanju further narrated that, when the complainant made the audit of the account from September 2019 to December 2021 and noticed that defendant has siphoned the company’s funds up to N13.4 million.

The prosecutor added during the investigation of the police, the defendant acknowledged that he diverted the sum of N11.9 million to his personal pocket and has only remitted the sum of N800, 000.

The prosecutor said the offence, was a violation of the provisions of sections 312, 322 and 289 of the Penal Code.

When the matter was read to the defendant, he pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.

Ana’s Mohammed, who’s the presiding judge admitted the defendant to a bail of N12 million plus one surety who resides within the jurisdiction of the court, a traditional holder of title and a level 13 grade in the civil service.

Mohammed directed that the first letter of appointment of the surety, letter of confirmation and last letter of promotion and address of residence must be subjected to the verification of the court officer.

The judge therefore adjourned the matter until Nov. 30 for further hearing.
