Ruthless Real Madrid condemns Liverpool to heavy defeat
It was yet another poor show for Liverpool on Wednesday night as they suffered a 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid in first leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash.
Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, the latter profiting from Thibaut Courtois error had sent Jurgen Klopp’s side into a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes at Anfield.
Things apparently went bad for the hosts as the Spanish giants launched a resurgence that would ultimately leave the fans at the Anfield with a sour tale to tell.
The turn of the event started when Vinicius Junior restored parity for the Champions league holder before the half time.
While Eder Militao would later nodded Madrid in front early in the second half, little did many know that the Brazilian was opening the flood gates of goals for the Carlo Ancelotti’s side for another historic night.
And again, Karim Benzema’s brace was all Real Madrid needed to secure a 5-2 lead to complete the rout.
The result leaves a wide gap open for Liverpool to close when they go for the second leg at Santiago Bernabeu on March 15.
