Rivers Sole Administrator Summoned by House of Reps for oversight session

The Ad-Hoc Committee on Rivers State oversight has officially invited Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), the state’s Sole Administrator, to participate in an interactive session set for Thursday.

This information was shared by Akin Rotimi (Jnr), the Spokesman of the House, on Wednesday. The 21-member committee, chaired by House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, was inaugurated by Speaker Abbas Tajudeen earlier this week.

The formation of this committee comes in response to the National Assembly’s approval of a Presidential Proclamation declaring a State of Emergency in Rivers State.

During its inaugural meeting on Wednesday, the committee resolved to invite the Sole Administrator to discuss key developments in Rivers State since he assumed office.

Rotimi stated, “In line with its constitutional mandate to exercise full legislative oversight as per Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Committee decided to invite Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.) for a thorough interactive session.”

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. (Prof.) Julius Ihonvbere, OON, highlighted the importance of this engagement, saying, “This engagement is necessary to ascertain the true state of affairs in Rivers State and ensure that the House remains properly guided in its oversight responsibilities in the public interest.”

The Sole Administrator is expected to appear before the Committee on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at 4:00 PM in Room 414 of the House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

A formal letter of invitation has been sent and acknowledged, reinforcing the committee’s commitment to transparency in its activities.

The committee reiterates its dedication to executing its duties with diligence and adherence to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
