Rivers crisis: Fubara meets Tinubu in Abuja

Fubara

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara Governor, is currently meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The Informant247 gathered that Fubara arrived at the Presidential Villa on Thursday evening and went straight to the office of the President for the closed-door meeting.

The meeting is not unconnected with the crisis rocking Rivers State between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who is also the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)

The Informant247 reports that Fubara has held several meetings with Tinubu since his face-off with his predecessor, who is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, began.

At the last Aso Rock meeting,  the governor signed an 8-point agreement, which was meant to resolve the dispute with Wike, but the crisis is far from being over.

In a bid to put an end to the political crisis in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday, signed an agreement with his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to allow peace to reign in the State.

The Informant247 gathered that the agreement was reached after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other stakeholders met with the two warring factions

It was learned that a document emerging from the meeting directed that all impeachment proceedings initiated against Fubara by the Rivers State House of Assembly should be dropped immediately, adding that all matters instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team, in respect of the political crisis in the state “shall be withdrawn IMMEDIATELY”.

Other directives, according to the document, read, “The leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly as led by the Rt Hon Martin Amaewhule shall be recognized alongside the 27 members who resigned from the PDP.

Fubara’s loyalist Edison Ehie resigns as Assembly speaker

Hon. Edison Ehie, the factional Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly and Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s loyalist has reportedly resigned his position as the Speaker and member of the Assembly representing Ahaoda East Constituency 2.

The Informant247 gathered that Ehie, in his letter of resignation dated December 29, 2023, and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), did not state the reason for his resignation while thanking his colleagues in the Assembly for the excellent working relationship and his constituency for supporting him throughout his stay in the Assembly.

Ehie was the majority leader of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly until the House suspended him following the failed impeachment process initiated against Governor Similanayi Fubara.
