Rivers Assembly complex to be ready in six months – Sole Administrator

Ibok Ibas, the Rivers State Sole Administrator, has disclosed that he will work to ensure the completion of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex before he leaves office.

Ibas, while stating this during the inspection of the complex on Saturday, explained that in the last two days of assumption of duties, he had noticed a missing pillar in the state governance structure.

Ibas advised the contractor handling the State Assembly Complex project to speed up work and deliver it as mutually agreed, saying part of his mandate as Sole Administrator included restoring full and effective legislative activities in the State.

Ibas, accompanied by the Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr George Nwaeke, was conducted around the site by the company’s General Manager handling the project, Engr Omaka Oko.

He said:” I had been at the executive arm of the state governance structure, and one of the pillars missing for now is the legislature. For them to function effectively, they also need a place to work from.

“And perhaps, I am yet to be sure that work is going on as expected so that this place will be ready for those who need to use it by the end of the six months. I think basically that is what it is.

“They (the contractor) have a schedule and timelines to which they would like to adhere. I think the State has done its own bit by providing the necessary funds, I was briefed. So the onus is on them to keep to the terms.”

He emphasized that he was appointed in the first place to maintain law and order, which will enable the State to return to what it is supposed to be.
