Respite as Chelsea records first EPL win since October

Goals from Kai Havertz and Mason Mount ensured that Chelsea got off a good start against AFC Bournemouth in their first post-world cup match.

Chelsea’s dominance paid off early as they took the lead in 16 minutes when Sterling set up Harvetz down the right with the latter crowning it with a good finish.

Mason Mount would seven minutes later have his own name on the goal sheet when he took a superb shot from 20- yards after receiving a pass from Havertz.

Chelsea had the game in their hands with a couple of chances and the host would have their goal keeper, Mark Travers to thank for putting up fine saves.

The victory signals a turn of event for Graham Potter whose side had endured a winless run in the league before the the world cup break in November.

Chelsea’s last victory in the EPL was their 2-0 win over Aston Villa on October 16. The blues have since then, despite some triumphs in the Champions league have gone winless in their last five league games.

Chelsea will face relegation battling Nottingham Forest on January 1 and takes on Manchester City four days later for the second time in the season – the first in the EFL Cup.
