Report early case of tuberculosis to nearest hospital – Kwara govt tells residents
The Kwara State Government has called on the state’s residents, especially those living in the Asa Local Government Area, to proactively report suspected Tuberculosis (TB) within their communities to the nearest clinic to prevent the spread of the communicable disease.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, made the call during the week, at the official investiture program for the TB Champion of Asa LGA, held at the Aisha Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, Eyenkorin, in Asa Local Government Areas of the state.
El-Imam, while emphasizing the critical need for Asa LGA to lead in identifying and reporting TB cases, noted that proactive case detection is vital in tackling the public health challenges posed by the disease.
She also highlighted the importance of community involvement and vigilance, stressing that early detection and treatment are key in eradicating the disease, appealing to women in the community to ensure their children receive timely immunizations against preventable diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, and other infectious diseases.
The Commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing the health of citizens, particularly those at the grassroots.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Asa Local Government Area, Alhaji Yahaya Shehu, commended the State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his unwavering dedication to healthcare development, referencing the recent renovation and equipping of Asa General Hospital, Afon.
He, however, expressed concern over the maternal mortality rate in the area, which he attributed to the continued patronage of traditional birth attendants during childbirth.
He, therefore, urged residents to utilize the equipped health facilities to complement the government’s efforts at eradicating deadly diseases and promoting quality healthcare delivery.
Hon Shehu thereafter appreciated community leaders in the Asa Local Government Area for their roles as health ambassadors, thereby supporting healthcare initiatives and promoting healthy practices within their communities.
