‘Rejected by grassroots, seeking relevance in ADC’ — Kwara PDP mocks former chairman over defection
The State Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, has described the recent defection of some former party executives as a blessing in disguise, saying their exit would allow genuine and loyal members, particularly youths, to thrive.
In a statement by Adewara and obtained by The Informant247, he said the decision of Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, former State Chairman of the PDP, and Gabriel Kananjogun, the immediate past State Treasurer, to leave the party was not unexpected, insisting their move was driven by “personal disappointment and desperation for relevance.”
Adewara alleged that Mohammed “desperately lobbied” to retain his position as State Chairman during the last congress but was rejected by party members who, according to him, had evaluated his performance and commitment to the party’s ideals.
He also claimed that Kananjogun’s bid to be imposed as PDP Chairman in Moro Local Government was turned down by the same members “who have now seen through his double standards and self-serving politics.”
“It is laughable that individuals who were rejected by the grassroots for lack of loyalty and sincerity are now running to the ADC and claiming to be victims of anti-democratic tendencies,” Adewara said. “Their actions confirm the old saying that when character fails, excuses multiply.”
The PDP spokesman further mocked reports that Tunde Mohammed was already being considered for the position of State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the development as evidence of the “emptiness and political bankruptcy” of the ADC in Kwara.
He concluded that the PDP in the state remains strong, united, and people-driven, while urging members not to be distracted by what he termed “the exit of politically irrelevant individuals.”
