Reappointment of Hajia Kperogi as clerk, another legislative blunder, MATEC chides KWHA

The Media advocacy and technologies centre, MATEC has chided the Kwara State House of Assembly Members for the reappointment of Hajia Jummai Kperogi as clerk on Wednesday.

In a statement released the Program Manager, Tosin Ramonu, MATEC said the reappointment is another legislative blunder committed by the members of the state House of Assembly.

According to the statement, “As honorable members elected into an important arm of democratic government, they have bastardized the little honour and authority bestowed on them.

“Section 9(1-4) of the Kwara state House of Assembly Commission, 2018 law is very clear on appointment of the Clerk of the House.

“And as a retired staff, Section 02411 of Public Service rules of Kwara state postulated that he or she can be re-engaged into career posts on grade levels immediately below that on which they retired.

“Today’s conduct by members of Kwara state House of Assembly shows that they don’t have anything tangible to offer the people of Kwara state.

It stressed that the illegal appointment of Halima Kperogi as clerk is reckless and a total disregard of laid down procedures and an undue politicisation of public service in Kwara state.

“This should be condemned in its totality by all well meaning people of Kwara state. This is an impunity taken too far,” MATEC stated in the statement.

It hereby called on the Chairman of Kwara state House of Assembly Commission, Femi Yusuf and other members to use the instrumentality of the law guiding the commission to save the image and integrity of the government, adding that it will not hesitate to drag the commission before the court of law if the House fails to retrace its steps and let the right thing be done.
