Qatar denies reports of new visa restrictions on Nigerians
Qatar, on Wednesday, dismissed claims circulating on social media regarding the introduction of new visa restrictions for Nigerian travelers.
On Tuesday, various online sources alleged that Qatar’s Ministry of Interior had implemented stricter regulations on Nigerians in response to a noticeable increase in overstays. These reports suggested that the new measures would apply to both tourist and transit visas, impacting even pending applications.
It was further claimed that only women and families would be permitted to apply, while male travelers would need to be accompanied by family members to be eligible. Additionally, applicants were purportedly required to provide proof of return flights and five-star hotel bookings as a condition for visa processing.
However, an official from the Qatar embassy in Nigeria stated on Wednesday that there was “no official information or updates” confirming such restrictions.
The BBC also reported that Hayya, Qatar’s digital platform for e-visa services, reiterated that the visa application process remains unchanged. “There has been no suspension or changes to the current procedures. If any updates are to be made in this regard, they will be announced on our official platforms,” the statement read.
Qatar continues to be a popular destination for Nigerian visitors, serving as both a transit hub and a tourist location in recent years.
