The controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmed Gumi has reacted to the arrest of Tukur Mamu, bandits’ negotiator, by the operatives of Department of State Services, DSS.
The Informant247 had earlier reported that Mamu who has been negotiating the freedom of Abuja-Kaduna train victims, was apprehended on Tuesday at Cairo International Airport alongside his family.
Following his repatriation to Nigeria on Wednesday, the DSS alerted the Nigerian people that Mamu has been kept in their custody, revealing that the spokesperson to Gumi has questions to attend to on the terrorism battling Nigeria.
While delivering sermon at the Sultan Bello Mosque, Gumi called on the DSS to take immediate action on the suspected negotiator, by either releasing him or charging him to court.
Gumi revealed that the Nigerian constitution provides that anyone apprehended over an alleged crime must be dragged to court for trial within 24 hours.
While speaking on how the suspected negotiator was apprehended and his residence raided in Kaduna state, the outspoken cleric was of the opinion that intimidation from the DSS is also an act of terrorism.
He said, “Take him to court to face trial. Keeping him in custody despite being a family man was just to intimidate him. This intimidation is also terrorism. Arresting people unjustly is also terrorism; just like the terrorists do by going to somebody’s house to kidnap him.
“It’s not about Tukur Mamu, you all know that whenever they arrest innocent people, I always talk, not to talk of someone that I know and I’m only advising the government to release him so that we can apologize to him to forget what happened.”
