One of the game to watch out for as the final round of matches in group B winds down today is the match between USA and Iran.
Having defeated Wales in their last game, the Iranians now seat behind England on the table with one point difference and a win against the Americans will definitely see Iran going through to the next round.
Iran could still escape Group B with a draw with US but will be at the mercy of goal difference in the event that the Gareth Southgate’s team lost to Wales.
That US have two points from their last two games. They will be sweating it out for a win as they set eyes on the knockout stage- anything short of victory will see them packing.
The match between USA and Iran takes more dimensions than football due to the diplomatic tension between both countries.
In 1998 World Cup, Iran defeated US 2-1 in a match that was reportedly described as “mother of all games” and the “most politically charged game in World Cup history”.
For England, a win or a draw against Wales today will see them progress to the round of 16. Standing top of the table with Four points from two games, the Three Lions would still progress as long as they avoid a four- goal defeat against Wales who are six fewer goal difference to them.
