“Protest is last resort in Kwara,” Activist informs Police, DSS of October 1st demonstration
Kwara-based activist Comrade Mashood Lanre Osho has officially notified the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) about a planned peaceful protest on October 1, 2024.
The demonstration, which will coincide with Nigeria’s Independence Day, targeted at addressing issues of severe hunger and food price inflation in Kwara State.
In his letter, Osho requests support from the security agencies to ensure the event’s safety and success.
He emphasizes that the protest is a last resort, if the attempts to engage traditional rulers and religious leaders in discussions with the Kwara State Governor failed.
Osho’s letter also copies His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, and other key stakeholders, stressing their crucial role in resolving the crisis.
“I am copying this letter to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Ilorin, and other relevant stakeholders, as we believe that their intervention is crucial in resolving this matter amicably,” he said.
He clarified that his previous absence from recent protests was to uphold peace, but the urgent situation now necessitates action.
The activist has called on authorities to facilitate a meeting with the Governor and other stakeholders to address the escalating issues.
Recall that on August 1, a national protest against bad governance and hardship saw minimal turnout in Ilorin, Kwara State’s capital.
Security operatives had taken over major parts of the city, and the small group led by Buhari Olarewaju cited fear and panic induced by authorities as reasons for the low participation.
