Presidential Tribunal: Court orders Obi to present petitions against Tinubu in three weeks

Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC led by Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani on Tuesday, has given Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), and his party three weeks ultimatum to present their joint petition against last presidential election held in February 25.

The Informant247 gathered that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was also given five days to defend his victory at the election alongside the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Professor Awa Kalu (SAN), counsel to Obi had requested seven weeks to establish their allegations against Tinubu’s victory.

Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, while issuing the order during the pre-hearing sessions report of the Court, said that Obi must open his petition for hearing on May 30 and end same on June 23.

The Court explained that it arrived at the decision due to the time frame which the petition must be disposed off.

Obi, who was in court to witness the proceedings, immediately took permission from the court and saying they were going to prepare for the full blown hearing of the petition.

However, the Court ordered the consolidation of the petitions in order to ensure expeditious hearing, while throwing out the vehement objection of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the consolidation.
