President Tinubu appoints Dr. Ghali Muhammad, others to NNPC management team
In a move to reshape the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), President Bola Tinubu has named a new Board and Management team, effective December 1, 2023.
This development, in accordance with Section 59 (2) of the Petroleum Industry Act, 2021, marks a significant shift in the energy sector.
The appointments are as follows:
- Chief Pius Akinyelure — Non-Executive Board Chairman
- Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari — Group Chief Executive Officer
- Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya — Chief Financial Officer
- Mr. Ledum Mitee — Non-Executive Director
- Mr. Musa Tumsa — Non-Executive Director
- Mr. Ghali Muhammad — Non-Executive Director
- Prof. Mustapha Aliyu — Non-Executive Director
- Mr. David Ogbodo — Non-Executive Director
- Ms. Eunice Thomas — Non-Executive Director
In addition to the NNPC appointments, President Tinubu has also appointed two Permanent Secretaries to key positions:
- Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo — Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Finance
- Amb. Gabriel Aduda — Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources
Dr. Ghali Muhammad is a notable ally of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
President Tinubu envisions a proactive approach from the newly appointed team, emphasizing a performance-driven and results-oriented agenda.
The President added that the administration aims to implement an energy policy that maximizes current oil and gas resources while strategically preparing for the exploration of new and cleaner energy sources in the future.
