Popular Ilorin market razed by fire

A fire outbreak on Monday, caused damaged to mechanic workshops at Ipata Oloje Market, Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state.

The inferno, which posed serious threat to no fewer than 178 shops occurred exactly at 8:05 pm., following its ignition by an unknown person who set refuse on fire, thereby affecting nearby combustible materials and escalating into the outbreak.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said the swift response of the firefighters, curtailed the spread of the fire, while preventing further damage to the shops and adjoining structures within the market.

The statement, however, quoted the Director of the State Fire Service, strongly warns against the reckless burning of refuse in and around markets, as such negligent acts pose severe risks to lives and properties, adding that members of the public are advised to always adopt safer waste disposal practices.
