Policeman crushed to death by hit-and-run driver in Ekiti

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the Ekiti State Police Command has been crushed to death by a hit-and-run driver at a police checkpoint in Ekiti.

The police officer, identified as Idris Lawal, was struck at a checkpoint at Ayemi Garage along Iworoko Road in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, during a stop-and-search operation around 11 p.m. on Monday.

The deceased was rushed to the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) for medical intervention but was confirmed dead by doctors on duty.

According to police sources, the officer was hit by an unmarked white Mercedes-Benz.

The body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue and efforts are being made to arrest the culprit.
