Police storm illegal petroleum refining site, apprehend two persons, recover items

Police officers who are attached to the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Special Task Force on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering (IGP-STFPIB) have raided an non-legal petroleum refining operation in Edo State.

CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, who made this announcement via a statement on Sunday, said the development came following the interception of intelligence on activities of an alleged illegal petroleum products refining syndicate which were operated adjacent to Agbor Junction, Benin City, Edo State, through a whistleblower.

The statement stated that three empty DAF trucks, and 31 immobile surface tanks – 7 that were loaded with an unenumerated quantity of products of petroleum, were recovered by the police.

Adejobi revealed that two suspects, who were one Chinedu Iyanabor, 18, and Sunday Iyagbesun, 52, were also apprehended during the raid.

He said that preliminary investigations have shown that the site was also used as a dump site for products petroleum .

He also added that all suspects would be dragged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
