Police sack 7 officers over brutality, harassment, extortion in Imo

The police have sacked 7 police officers attached to the Imo Police Command over alleged harassment, extortion, brutality of people of the state, and illegal checking of phones.

The development was confirmed by the Imo police Command.

The spokesperson of the police Command, Michael Abattam, in a statement revealed the identities of sacked officers as Finian Irome, Chibuzo Ohakim, Kelechi Onuegbu, George Osueke, Nwagoro Isdore, Plastidus Ihemtuge and Stephen Nwadike.

He revealed that the police officers were apprehended after members of the public made complaints about the activities of the police officers.

He said the offences were carried out by the officers in “fragrant disobedience” to the order given by Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali (IGP).

The spokesperson said the police officers were apprehended on 8 November at a bank in Umuahia, Abia State, while conspiring to extort an “innocent” resident whose identity was not revealed.

“They were defaulted, tried and found guilty (by police authorities) of the charges levelled against them, thus were summarily dismissed and charged to Magistrate Court, Owerri with charge sheet number no: OW/746C/2022,” he said.
