Police parade suspected drug dealer, kidnapper in Niger

The Police Command in Niger State has apprehended one Shehu Baidu, suspected to be a kidnapper intimidating Gurara, Lapai Local government areas and its surroundings.

DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police spokesperson of the state command, in a statement, revealed that the suspect was arrested following an intelligence report.

The police disclosed that the 18-year-old Shehu Baidu, who’s from Kango, Lapai LG, confessed that between May 2021 and August 2022, he collaborated with his allies to invade Maijaki village and Gurara Dam Site where they abducted 10 persons.

The image maker of the police in the state revealed that the suspect and his other seven allies received a ransom of N2.6 million before releasing the kidnapped victims.

The members of the gang were Sidi, Mamman Mallam, Shehu, Buba, Abubakar, Chede, Kura-Kura.

It was revealed that the members of the gang whom were all males and whose addresses of residence were not disclosed staged their operation with three AK-47 rifles while terrorising the communities.

The spokesperson of the police in the state said, “he further confessed that in August, 2022, he contacted one Shehu of Saminaka village via Lapai to purchase five soft drinks, five packets of cigarette and two loaves of bread for him to take same to his gang members in their hideout.”

Abiodun further revealed that the police command apprehended a 34 year old Chinedu Makata, suspected to be a drug dealer, living at Bangi, Mariga LG, Enugu State.

He noted that, “during the raid, 47 wraps of suspected Indian hemp and some other suspected hard drugs were recovered from the shop.

“In the process of effecting the arrest of the said shop owner, he pulled out a locally made gun and threatened to shoot the police operatives. However, he was later disarmed and arrested by the police team.”

He added that the suspects have been arraigned in court for due prosecution.
