Police launch bid to rescue farmer kidnapped in Kwara

The Police in Kwara State are scrambling to rescue a farmer abducted on his way to his farm near Rore in Irepodun Local Council on Thursday.

“The Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, has set in motion an all round effort through deployment of the command’s tactical units in conjunction with local hunters and vigilantes to move into the surrounding bushes of the farm settlement to effect the rescue of the victim unhurt and possible arrest of the abductors,” spokesman of the command, Dsp Okasanmi Ajayi said in a statement on Friday.

President of the Omu-Aran Development Association, Major-General Lasisi Abidoye (RTD), had in a statement issued by the association’s spokesman Olayinka Owolewa, described the development as unfortunate.

“Efforts are on to rescue him through the combined efforts of local hunters from Omu-Aran, Rore, Aranorin, the Civil Defence Corps and the Police force,” the body added.

The association commended the Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti, for organising a prayer session aimed at ensuring that the community is ridden of criminals.

It further appealed to members of the community to report strange happenings in the area to security agencies or their compound chiefs and avoid harbouring or accommodating strangers without proper records into the town.
