Planned strike: We’re reconsidering our stance, says labour unions

Barely 24-hours to the nationwide strike, the Organised Labour, which comprises Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), has said it is reconsidering its decision to embark on the action slated for Wednesday, August 2, 2023, due to the removal of fuel subsidy and the fuel price hike across the country.

The strike is scheduled to begin with a mass protest.

After the rescheduled presidential steering committee on palliatives meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, Emma Ugbaja, general secretary, NLC, said President Bola Tinubu’s announced measures were welcomed although they were not comprehensive enough, adding that the labour unions would consult with its members to reach a consensus on the next course of action before the day ends.
