PeacePro condemns killing of police officers

A Non Governmental Organization, Foundation for Peace professionals also known as PeacePro has condemned the violent attack on policemen and damage to police operational vehicles and other assets in some part of the country.

The NGO said that the police force is not an enemy of the country, adding they don’t deserve to be treated inhumanely.

The Executive Director of the organization, AbdulRazaq Hamzat said this in a press statement issued on Friday, in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

He disclosed that the government and the people have made it difficult for police to secure the country in a more professional way, reiterating that justice and peace building cannot be done without giving the slain officers and their families justice.

Hamzat asked the media, global community and Civil Society to voice out against the unwarranted killing of officers, describing the killing of 22 police officers as a massacre.

He said, “We must not shut out eyes to violence suffered by police during the protest, perpetrators of violence must not be left to go unpunished an family of victims must be supported to get justice.

“Police should be made to realize that brutality against citizens will not be left unpunished, while citizens should also be made to understand that violence against police is intolerable.”

He furthered that there are chances of victims of police brutality getting justice through the ongoing independent judicial panel of inquiry on EndSARS, but there are no avenue for officers ruthlessly killed getting justice, a development he said doesn’t encourage reconciliation.,

“Police cannot be made to feel unwanted in our society, their lives cannot be made to seem unimportant and perpetrators of violence cannot be made to feel that they can get away with the cruelest human right violation against police officers,” he added.
