PDP slams Kwara govt over NYSC camp relocation, accuses governor, deputy of absenteeism

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has criticized Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and his deputy, Kayode Alabi, over what it described as their absence and silence in the face of worsening insecurity across the state.

The opposition party, in a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday by its Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, said the recent relocation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp from its statutory site in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area, to Ilorin, was an embarrassment to the state’s image.

The PDP said such a development demanded direct communication from the governor, lamenting that Kwarans only learned of the move through social media.

“As a party, we believe that a matter of this magnitude—touching on the safety of our young graduates from other states and the reputation of Kwara before the entire nation—the Governor ought to be on ground and talk directly to the people, but here we are, left to rely on bloggers for such critical updates,” the statement read in part.

The party accused the governor of being disconnected from the realities of insecurity in the state, alleging that while governors in other states held regular security council meetings and addressed their people, AbdulRazaq had chosen to remain silent.

It further accused the deputy governor of being “invisible,” saying Alabi, who hails from one of the worst-hit areas of the state, had failed to speak up or offer leadership despite recurring attacks in his constituency.

The PDP alleged that taxpayers’ money spent on the deputy governor amounted to a waste, claiming his role had been reduced to “drawing salary, running personal errands and feeding his family.”

Describing the situation as “unfortunate and saddening,” the party said Kwara was on an “autopilot leadership” and called on the governor to return immediately to address the security crisis.

The statement also urged the Kwara State House of Assembly and security agencies to hold the executive accountable for its constitutional duty to protect lives and property.

“The future of our state cannot be sacrificed on the altar of personal comfort and political convenience,” the PDP declared.

As of press time, the Kwara State Government had yet to respond to the opposition party’s claims.
