PDP demands reversal of policies as party voices deep concerns over Tinubu’s administration

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally appealed to President Bola Tinubu to reverse what they describe as anti-people policies, asserting their refusal to be intimidated by the Federal Government’s actions.

This declaration was made during the PDP’s 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum highlighted the party’s serious concerns regarding the deteriorating state of the nation under Tinubu’s leadership.

“The NEC condemns the worsening insecurity; the wanton killings, banditry, kidnapping, and other acts of terrorism,” Damagum stated, pointing to the administration’s negligence in fulfilling its constitutional duty to ensure the safety of citizens.

In addition to security issues, Damagum criticized the prevailing economic hardship resulting from what he termed “ill-advised and ill-implemented policies.” He specifically mentioned the rise in fuel prices and electricity tariffs, which he claims have contributed to extreme poverty, business closures, and increased criminality across the country. “This has resulted in a general sense of misery,” he noted.

The NEC’s communiqué also addressed concerns over corruption and financial mismanagement, urging Tinubu to rescind his policies and take actionable steps to address the nation’s economic recession and security challenges.

Damagum further expressed apprehension about the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) attempts to stifle opposition, stating, “NEC stands in firm resistance to this sinister plot to turn Nigeria into a one-party totalitarian state.”

Bala Mohammed, chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, echoed these sentiments by condemning the Federal Government’s use of intimidation tactics. He reassured the party’s unity in the face of adversity, asserting, “Despite these pressures, our members remain steadfast and unwavering. There is no form of intimidation or persuasion we have not encountered.”
