PDP crisis: Saraki to lead 7-man reconciliation committee ahead of key events

In a strategic move aimed at healing internal rifts, the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum (PDP-GF) has appointed former Senate President Bukola Saraki to lead a seven-member reconciliation committee.

This announcement was made by PDP-GF Chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, during a press briefing following a significant meeting with former governors in Abuja on Sunday night.

“The committee has been mandated to reconcile aggrieved members ahead of the upcoming PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on May 27 and the national convention slated for August,” Mohammed stated.

He emphasized the gathering as a crucial step in ensuring unity within the party, saying, “We discussed some of the issues relating to our party, some existential issues that have been circulating in the media and among us.”

The governor reassured party supporters of their commitment to unity, expressing, “We want to reassure our teaming supporters that the PDP is working, the PDP is united.”

Responding to questions about recent defections, including that of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Mohammed remarked, “This is what is forcing us to come together. Rather than diminishing and weakening, it is making us stronger.”

The reconciliation committee is composed of notable figures, including governors Dauda Lawal of Zamfara, Caleb Muftwang of Plateau, Peter Mba of Enugu State, as well as senators and former governors like Seriake Dickson and Ibrahim Dankwambo.

The meeting was attended by various key party leaders, signaling a renewed focus on enhancing the party’s strategies and rebuilding its structure in the face of recent challenges.
