Pastor allegedly defiles, impregnates 14-year-old church member

On Tuesday, an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos remanded Rufus Olatunji, a pastor of the Royal World Embassy Church, for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 14-year-old member.

Mrs. F.M. Kayode, the Chief Magistrate, who did not hear Olatunji’s plea, ordered that he be remanded at Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

Kayode then rescheduled the matter on March 8 for further consideration.

Olatunji, 45, is charged with illicit sexual intercourse and obtaining an abortion on two counts.

Earlier, Prosecutor Insp Kehinde Olatunde informed the court that the defendant committed the crimes in August 2021 at the Royal World Embassy Church in Ipaja.

Olatunde claimed that the defendant had sexual relations with the girl at the Church’s store, resulting in the pregnancy.

When the defendant found out, he allegedly gave the girl a medicine to stop the pregnancy.

According to Olatunde, the girl’s parents reported the incident to the police, and the defendant was detained.

He said the offences violated Sections 137 and 145(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.
