Parents of students on exchange programme protest in Ilorin

Parents of students of Kwara state indigene who are on exchange programme to the 18 northern states, in the early hours of Monday, staged a protest against the state government over their alleged inability to transport them back to their various states of schooling.

The parents who trooped out, and marched to the state Ministry of Education at the state secretariat complex, maintained that students from other states, in the programme, are already in Kwara while their own children are still at home despite being in the 3rd (third) academic week.

When contacted, the state Commissoner for Education and Human Capital Development, Mrs Ahmed Fatimoh Bisola denied it as “not true” but didn’t provide more details.

THE INFORMANT247 correspondent who is at the scene interviewed some of the aggrieved parents who lamented bitterly about the state government’s attitude to students on exchange programme.

However, the commisoner who earlier denied this to THE INFORMANT247 addressed the protesting parents and assured them that all neccesary payment will be made before the end of the week to ensure their wards are taken back to their respective states of schooling.

“For the commisoner to say she is not aware is a lie, she knows and she was here earlier to address us. We are on protest, students from other states are back in Kwara but the reverse is the case here. And this is the third week”, said one of the parents who spoke to THE INFORMANT247 correspondent.

Meanwhile parents and their wards are still at the state secretariat till the time our correspondent left the scene.
