Oyo Police rescue 19 Ghanaian victims from human trafficking

The Oyo Police Command has successfully rescued 19 Ghanaians in a recent operation targeting human trafficking, as confirmed by spokesperson Adewale Osifeso in a statement issued in Ibadan.

Osifeso reported that the victims, which include 14 men and 5 women, were deceived into coming to Nigeria with false promises of job opportunities, only to become victims of a scheme that exploited them for financial gain.

“The investigation was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding suspicious activities at a building in the Kajorepo area of Akinyele Local Government Area,” Osifeso explained. The operation was conducted by the State Criminal Intelligence Department (CID) alongside tactical command teams, who executed a search warrant at a location that was securely locked from the outside. This operation resulted in the arrest of 19 individuals — all believed to be involved in the trafficking scheme.

In light of the situation, Osifeso clarified that the victims have been transferred to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further inquiries and arrangements to potentially reunite them with their families in Ghana.

“The Oyo State Police Command is dedicated to identifying those responsible for this serious crime,” he stated, urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
