Oyo govt moves to upgrade Ibadan airport to international standard
The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the temporary closure of Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport (SLAA) in Ibadan to allow for upgrade works.
The Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has shut down the runway and airport operations in line with International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) regulations.
The closure is part of the Oyo State Government’s plan to upgrade the airport from a domestic to an international facility, with various improvements and remodeling works currently underway.
Aviation authorities stated that the decision was necessary to ensure the safety of passengers and airport personnel, following standard aviation safety regulations.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has urged airport users and stakeholders to remain patient and cooperative during the upgrade process.
